Job title: Counselling Team Lead

Our aim is to empower people to access and retain a home by providing housing, prevention services, addiction treatment, emergency response and other targeted interventions, through advocacy and partnership.


Responsibilities:

  • To conduct out of hours risk assessment and individual suicide counselling/intervention with people experiencing homelessness. The Counsellor is required to maintain a clinical caseload in proportion to other duties of the role.
  • To establish appropriate contracts in relation to clients to facilitate a suicide prevention approach.
  • To provide phone support to clients expressing suicide ideation/deliberate self harm, and make approaite stabilisation support plan.
  • To provide advice and support to other staff in developing crisis stabilisation plans.
  • Develop and take responsibility for administration and communication of out of hours staff rota.
  • To attend for regular internal line management and external clinical supervision in accordance with professional code of ethics and organisational policy.
  • Facilitate informal drop in counselling clinic programme as directed by manager which will include evening and weekends.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of clinical practice in line with code of conduct, ethics and to operate within the organisations policies and procedures.
  • To collate all stats and reports as directed by counselling manager.
  • Support the development and delivery of suicide prevention staff training.

Essential

  • A degree in counselling/psychotherapy or a diploma in counselling and a Degree in Psychology, Social care or Social work.
  • 12 months full time providing counselling in a homeless service
  • Full accreditation with a professional accreditation body.
  • Understanding of the impact of childhood abuse and trauma
  • Understanding of why and how people become homeless and the needs they have in order to exit their situation out of homelessness
  • Assessing clients’ suitability for counselling/psychotherapy
  • Working within a range of therapeutic approaches
  • Providing short and long term therapy contracts
  • Full or part time experience providing counselling in a social or care setting.
  • Experience of counselling evaluation tools & management software applications.
  • Experience of developing and delivering a range of clinical & psychoeducational groups.
  • Experience of conducting client assessments


Desirable

  • 12 months full time providing counselling in a homeless service
  • Ability to speak Polish or Russian would be an advantage
  • Over one year full accreditation with accreditation body
  • Full driving licence
