    SENSING, LANGUAGE, ACCOMPANIMENT

    A SPACE OF PRESENCE

    10.30-12.30 Tuesdays, zoom platform

    May 20, 27, June 3 [pause]* June 10, 17, 24

    with Emma Philbin Bowman, BA, MIAHIP

    This space offers an opportunity to gather with others over five Tuesday mornings in May and June. We will create a receptive, responsive field that invites participants to represent and embody ‘more of ourselves’ than we tend to be able to do in our everyday contexts.

    By slowing down, offering our presences to one another, and supporting the exploration of nuance, the intention is to bring language and accompaniment to neglected or muted elements in our experience. This process supports our growth into fuller presence, texture and complexity.

    This is not group therapy; rather it is an environment of shared, explorative presencing. The space will suit those experienced in inner work (therapy/spiritual practice) who are aware of a deficit of contexts in which they can articulate and sense into phenomena that feel important to them.

    'We may fail to connect either with ourselves or with others, and what we are feeling slides away.  We may pretend such slippage is unimportant or a normal part of living, and so nullify it or play it down. But somewhere we are left with frustration and perhaps loss, as feelings that carry our most intimate facts and selves remain unborn or undeveloped.'

    Michael Eigen: Emotional Storm

    Practicalities:

    Maximum participants 10, minimum 6

    Cost 250 euro*. Cost covers all live sessions, one-to-one check-ins during pause week, and access to supplementary material on teachable.

    To inquire about participation/booking: contact emmapb@me.com

    Emma is an experienced psychotherapist and facilitator with a special interest in the potency of small group work. Her spaces are characterized by a warm, collaborative atmosphere in which participants can contribute from and be reflected in their specificity. There is a quality of reciprocity and shared exploration: each genuine contribution supports our own elaboration and opens possibilities for others.

    ‘The Hero’s Journey’

    experiential residential workshop

    June 28th - July 4th 2025

    Slí an Chroí, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow

    In a world where the very ground under our feet seems unsteady, we all have been called to find the courage and resilience to deal with new and highly unpredictable challenges. The central figure in 'The Hero's Journey' represents the potential within every human being to respond to just such calls, to just such challenges and ordeals as we face now.

    The ‘Hero’s Journey’ workshop, based on the pattern of the universal ‘Hero monomyth’ described by Joseph Campbell, is an exciting group structure that involves a rich combination of Gestalt process and groupwork with elements of myth, theatre, ritual, music, image-making and movement. We discover the
    Hero within us and – having heard a Call to Adventure – we set off with her or him on a journey of exploration through our inner world. On the journey, our Heroic Self encounters opposition from her or his inner Demon of Resistance. There is a confrontation between these two aspects of ourselves, an ordeal, a resolution and an integration. Returning to the world of the everyday, we explore how this inner transformation can continue to work in our lives beyond the workshop.

    What previous participants said about ‘The Hero’s Journey’:
    "A deep, embodied experience that is truly life-changing.”
    “Honest, and well-guided journey into the unknown with skilled practitioners.”
    “Very, very helpful.  I’m not sure that I could have found what I was seeking without this space.  Very full, and full of surprises.”

    This week-long workshop offers a creative opportunity for personal growth and expansion.  We invite you to meet yourself in a new way and to experience the joy of connection in the beautiful surrounds of the Slí an Chroí Centre, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow.

    For a more detailed description of the workshop (and for more participant comments) go to http://foolsdancegestaltcompany.ie/workshops/the-heros-journey/

    Addiction doesn’t just affect one partner, it shapes the space between. It can show up quietly, through disconnection, reactivity, or emotional absence. For therapists working with couples, recognising how addiction affects relational dynamics is essential.

    Many therapists encounter couples where addiction, past or present, plays a hidden but powerful role in the relationship. The work isn’t about treating the addiction itself, but about recognising its impact, knowing how to hold what surfaces in the dynamic, and understanding when a referral to specialist support is needed.

    What You’ll Learn:

    • How different types of addiction present in the couple dynamic
    • How partners cope, and what those coping styles reveal
    • How to assess for addiction in the context of couples work
    • Presenting models that help make sense of what’s happening
    • When (and how) to refer to specialised addiction services
    • Ethical considerations: safety, clarity, and appropriate containment

    Martial Arts-based Deliberate Practice to entrain therapist courage.

     (12 hours CPD)

    Dates: 14th & 15th June (In person at the Mindfulness & Compassion Therapy Centre, 33 Pembroke Street, Dublin 2)

    This two-day experiential embodied enactive workshop will expose you to martial arts-inspired skills and practices to integrate into your personal practice and bring to bear on your psychotherapeutic work.

    The workshop will involve a series of experiential exercises derived from a range of traditional Martial Arts, blended with practices from various mindfulness and compassion-based body-mind trainings, with a focus on how these relate to therapeutic process(es) and can be usefully transferred to the therapy space.

    Register for the training - https://www.mindfulness.ie/professional-training/cpd/radically-embodied-compassion-training

    Who is it for?

    The workshop is complimentary to therapists/clinicians from any therapeutic modality who wish to enhance their capacities in therapeutic presence, relational mindfulness, embodied self-regulation, compassionate engagement and action, and rupture-repair work.

    Please be assured that you do not need to be a ninja to participate in this training! If you are able to rise to standing from a seated position on your couch, and reach into your fridge for your milk or vegan alternative, you are able for this training!

    These embodied practices are designed to help you as a therapist/clinician develop the underlying (neuro)physiological capacities, motivational switching abilities and somatic resources to respond compassionately to challenging therapeutic encounters, particularly ruptures in the therapeutic alliance.

    Participants will also learn a variety of embodied practices and tools which can be integrated into client work.

    What you will learn:

    • How to maintain balance, stability, flexibility and compassionate responsiveness across emotional states;
    • Develop deep distress tolerance in being with strong (threat-based) emotions;
    • How to rapidly and fluidly switch between motivational systems to stay affiliatively engaged during moments of high emotional and relational threat;
    • How to dynamically respond to fears, blocks and resistances to compassion by absorbing, blending with and redirecting energy flow;
    • Embodying and enacting different forms of therapeutic courage (static and dynamic) in the therapy space;
    • Working with somatic transference-countertransference from a place of compassionate responsivity rather than threat-based reactivity.

    Where: The Mindfulness & Compassion Therapy Centre, 33 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin 2

    Facilitators: Dr Neil Clapton & Dr Syd Hiskey are experienced clinical psychologists and compassion focused therapy practitioners. They are also skilled in a variety of martial arts. They weave the two together seamlessly. They are also the founders of Fierce Compassion Martial Arts

    Cost: €395
