    Workshop Description

This workshop with Dr Stephen Terrell gives learners an overview of how Transforming Touch is delivered and the power of therapeutic touch in healing early trauma. It includes a screening of ‘Healing – The Power of Presence’ – a conversation between Dr Terrell & Dr Tony Bates.

    What is Transforming Touch®?

Transforming Touch® is a regulation focused therapy, that uses safe touch to heal and repair early developmental trauma in children, adolescents & adults. It was devised by Dr. Stephen Terrell and works with a 7-point protocol to build attachment and somatic trust in the body. Over time enhancements & the integration of primitive reflexes are incorporated. The practitioner meets the client exactly where they are with presence, regulation and compassion, allowing them to open to the possibility of healing. It’s a relational, non-pathologising approach that is profoundly healing at a nervous system level. It brings together several disciplines including Attachment Theory, Neuroscience, Child Development Theory, Trauma & Somatics.

    What is covered?

The program for the day will include the following:

Lectures & practical teaching including skill-building. Learn the importance of touch in healing early adversity and some basic touch skills that you can integrate into your practice.

Screening of ‘Healing – The Power of Presence’ – A recorded conversation between Dr Stephen Terrell & Dr Tony Bates, Clinical Psychologist & mindfulness practitioner. Come and hear Dr Terrell’s own story and how the modality developed over time. See a very powerful and rich exchange between two stalwarts of mental health healing & innovation.

A live demonstration of Transforming Touch®. Witness for yourself the depth & power of this approach, as Dr Terrell applies the principles of Transforming Touch® in a live demo.

A panel discussion between a variety of Irish professionals who are already integrating this ground-breaking modality into their work.

Q&A During the day, there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions with a focus on interactive & participative learning, drawing on everyone’s experience.

This workshop also serves as an introduction to the Transforming Touch® Practitioner Training beginning in 2025 at the Avila Carmelite Centre, Dublin.

Research Study Title: An Exploration of Psychotherapists views on working with clients who have or had, experiences of Psychosis.

The purpose of this study is toexplore psychotherapist’s views on working with clients who have or had, experiences of psychosis. This research aims to provide an overview of psychotherapist’s views and experiences of working with clients who have had an experience of psychosis in order to fundamentally understand this landscape. The research hopes to highlight if there are any common themes or experiences in providing psychotherapy in order to address potential barriers and educate about the need to improve access to therapy and understand the potential blocks if they exist.

    Research Objectives:

    1) Improve treatment efficacy by understanding the therapist’s perspective. Exploring these challenges may inform the need for more information/education.

    2) Enhancement of the therapeutic alliance with these clients if participants can identify their views, potential biases or misconceptions that may hinder the development of a therapeutic alliance.

    3) Partly address stigma for these clients, as they often face negative attitudes and discrimination from society. Identify any stigmatizing beliefs or concerns for participants of clients in therapy experiencing these symptoms. Taking part in this study may help reduce societal stigma and perhaps potentially increase the availability of therapy going forward.

    4) Identify areas for professional development and promote competence in working with diverse clients experiencing psychosis. Participating in research can promote more inclusive practices within the field of therapy. The Researcher’s overall aim is to promote awareness and a more compassionate therapeutic approach for client’s experiencing psychosis.

Your participation will help to contribute valuable insights into this area.

The Relevance of Myth and Mythology in Psychology

    Gillian Kind,

    Jungian Analyst

    ___________________________________________________________

Gillian’s seminar will look at why a ‘myth’ is not a myth. As long as humans have had speech, myth and mythology have always been relevant.

Mythology makes sense of the world and the forces greater than ourselves. It educates people into the religion, philosophy, morality and ethics of a culture, especially for the young. It is hands-on age-old knowledge and wisdom. For thepeople concerned, it is not a myth but the truth.

With the loss of the ‘myth’ of Christianity for many young and older people inthe West there is a vacuum of meaning, purpose and wisdom which is beingfilled by social media etc. But it is often unsatisfying and can lead to theproblem of extreme anxiety and FOMO. C.G. Jung said ‘The Gods havebecome diseases’, and we can see this in the level of addictions of all kinds.

Jung thought that finding one’s own ‘myth’ was very important. Gillian will look athow we might go on this search for what Jung calls ‘The Symbolic Life’.

Gillian Kind is a Jungian Analyst living in South West London with a private practice.  She is interested in the overlap of Jungian psychology, religion and psychiatry.  She is a training analyst and supervisor for IGAP and GAP and also gives Grass Roots seminars for the Jung Club London.
