Do you think it is possible for individuals to repress a memory for years and then recover it? What would that mean for the memory being recovered? Is it appropriate to question the possibility or validity of a recovered memory? The ongoing controversial debate around memory repression and recovery may have serious implications for psychotherapeutic theory and practice. As practicing psychotherapists, we want to know your valued opinions and experiences.

My name is Owen Coyle and I’m a Masters student in Applied Psychology. I am looking for practitioners of psychotherapy that are currently working in Ireland to complete a 10 minute survey on memory repression and recovery – please follow the link below:

    IN PERSON GROUP SUPERVISION
    A Gestalt Relational Model

    Sandra Mullen
    Psychotherapist, Accredited Supervisor, MIAHIP, MICP

Supervision is a space for counsellors, psychotherapists, and allied health professionals to develop their skills, protect from burnout and explore their own personal and professional development. It is a dynamic learning and development process in which both parties learn and grow together. (Page & Wosket 199:4).  The Gestalt Relational model of Group supervision forms the foundation of a supervisory relationship based on the philosophical principles of existential phenomenology, field theory and dialogic existentialism, a relationship that can hold safely what Yontef describes as our ‘Moment to moment experience of the ‘between’ and of the mutual influencing and co creation of meaning’ (Yontef 2002:15). This supervision group will be a holding space for therapists where they can be supported to stay with and reflect on how they impact and are impacted by their clients. Providing the opportunity where they can be curious and learn from their experience of what is evoked in them, including their struggles, doubts, and growing edges as they emerge in the group and ultimately to support them in providing a safe holding space for their clients.

    Who is the group for?

The group is for professionals who work in a process and integrative manner with a varied caseload. It is open to Accredited and Pre accredited Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Sandra is a Gestalt Psychotherapist and Supervisor accredited with IAHIP and ICP. She trained in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Gestalt Institute of Ireland (GII) and completed her training in Relational Gestalt Supervision with the Dublin Gestalt Centre (DGC). Sandra has a background in the community and voluntary sector with over 25 years’ experience providing personal development, educational and community-based programmes for individuals, families, and groups. She is also a facilitator, trainer, and organisational consultant with extensive experience in areas of supervision, team development, workplace learning and practitioners’ self-care. THE HIGH ART OF HELPING

CONSTELLATION WORK WITH HORSES AN EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOP ASSISTED BY HORSE PRESENCE AND WISDOM

Sunday June 11th 2023 Castlefergus Quinn Co Clare
    Fee: Euro 200.00

Helpfulness is a beautiful human quality, and helping in a professional way is a special Art. People often feel drawn to work with others and to help them in a special way. This pull can come from a deep love and loyalty that stems from within our own family system, our own herd.

To help in a healthy way, it is important to be able to understand what it is that has drawn us into our chosen profession and to be curious about what it is our hearts are longing for.

The ground-breaking work of Bert Hellinger, coming from his training in psychoanalysis to his systemic family therapy, allows us to see ourselves through a lens which brings to light our connections, loyalties and bonds, conscious and unconscious, across the generations.

The methodology of 'the constellation' uses human representatives to represent family members, issues or internal parts of ourselves. We use this lens and methodology and we include the presence and wisdom of the horses as representatives in the family field. Clearing our own 'field' allows us to work with clarity about our role as ‘Helpers’. This serves as a protection for the people we work with and avoids burnout for ourselves. In order to give in a healthy way, we must first be able to receive in a healthy way. Then we may no longer project our unconscious entanglements, our early unmet needs on to our co-workers and clients.

When we can experience being separate and connected, then we ourselves, and those we work with, become freer to move and heal in a healthy way. Helping at this level is 'a high art'.

These innovative workshops are offered to people who work with others. We use a team approach. The facilitating team consists of an equine specialist, mental health professionals and most importantly 'the horses'. All activities take place on the ground and you need no previous experience with horses to participate.

The structure of the day is based on Bert Hellinger's work on 'The high art of helping' and the three basic systemic principles of relationship: Belonging, Reciprocity and Order: things being in their right place.

In these, one day workshops we prepare to enter 'another's' field, (the others we work with). Participants are invited to come into a deeper awareness of themselves within their family field, their family herd. You are invited to come with an open heart and a respectful willingness to explore how the need to belong has shaped you. These workshops often facilitate a very deep inner movement whereby things come to the surface and into awareness in a healing and gentle way.

When we work in the presence of horses, observing their behaviour and at the same time being aware of what happens inside us as we allow ourselves to become attuned to them, we find that they can teach us to be present to our true selves, mindfully in alignment, separate and connected.

Horses are such authentic representatives and they mirror for us in an extraordinary way when we are present and open to their wisdom. As we enter the energetic field of the horse we can deepen our capacity for a transformational process in a truly profound way.

    Irish Society of Jungian Analysts
    in conjunction with the
    Irish Analytical Psychology Association
    Presents live on Zoom

    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    Thursday, 15th June 2023: 7.30pm 9.00pm (Irish time)

Skin: Bridge and Barrier in the Intersubjective Field
    Lisa Holland, MS, LPCC
    Jungian Analyst

This lecture explores the topic of skin in its actual and symbolic nature, including its functions as a physical and psychic boundary between “inside” and “outside”, and as both bridge and barrier between ourselves and others. We will explore skin further through a case study of a transgender woman who struggled with her relationship to her own skin as a result of severe childhood sexual trauma. The client’s story will be interwoven with a fairy tale, “The Seal Woman”, a story that follows a being who through the loss of her seal skin, is held hostage in the human realm, away from her own true nature.

Lisa Holland, MS, LPCC is a Jungian Analyst and member of IAAP, practicing, consulting, and teaching on the Central Coast of California, USA. She is trained in mindfulness-based somatic psychotherapy and now offers neurofeedback training (a form of computer-assisted biofeedback that works beneath consciousness) to support physiological regulation, thereby enabling clients to be more available to analytical work. Lisa’s areas of interest include: trauma recovery, creativity, women’s empowerment and embodiment and group process. She delights in the study of fairy tales, regularly offers seminars at ISAPZURICH (International School of Analytical Psychology, Zurich, Switzerland), presents at various international conferences, and gratefully spends several months of the year in Italyhttps://lisahollandtherapy.com/

Menopause Awareness for Psychotherapists and Counsellors

Recognised by Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

    10 CPD hours.
    Live online
    May 26th 7-9.30pm, 27th 9.30am-1.30
    live online
    28th 9.30am-1pm

Have you noticed the recent media surge in interest in menopause? You may not be aware of how much misinformation a woman is trusting at the moment, and how frightening it all is for this generation.

Have you noticed relationship struggles seem so often to appear in couples where the woman is in her 40s or early 50s? You may not be aware of the possible hormonal reasons for this. Your clients are unlikely to either.

In this course you will gain understanding of the biochemical impact of the stages of menopause, and how it, society, social media and even medical and lifestyle advice can negatively contribute to a woman's stability, behaviour, feelings and energy in distinct ways, and impact her immediate family, colleagues and friends.

    • Not just about the woman herself, you will gain insight into how perimenopause can affect relationships, and learn enough to help couples in particular, understand the impact the fluctuations of reproductive hormones have on their sense of each other.
    • The physical impacts on the body, and on hormones other than reproductive ones, will be made clear, helping you contextualise why some menopausal women may seem unable to implement suggestions for changes to improve their wellbeing, and how, if appropriate, you can help a woman overcome these impediments.
    • The nervous system is key to the severity of the perimenopause experience, and you will gain a wide array of useful techniques to support nervous system resilience in your clients, via stimulation of the Vagus Nerve and other strategies.
    • Trauma sensitivity in menopause because the struggles of perimenopause can be experienced as a loss of control, power and comfort in being who we are, and in feeling how we are feeling. The connection of menopause to trauma history, trauma-sensitive language and adjustments will be taught.
    • Somatic techniques adjusted for the menopausal woman because a woman’s relationship with her body can change. You will be resourced with simple techniques to help clients stay connected to their body.
    • The “feel-good hormones” are affected by the reduction in the reproductive hormones. In taking this course, you will learn in-session, and outside-session ways to encourage the release of these hormones in your clients, which can help with mood, libido, sleep, digestion, sociability and so much more.

There will be space to discuss particular challenges your clients are facing. These discussions will help professionals support a wide array of individual manifestations of this life phase, preparing them to be ready with language that is non-triggering and inclusive.

Working to support women’s health since 2004, I have helped at least 1,000 women worldwide one-to-one, in workshops, trainings, talks, retreats and classes to understand the menopause transition and to adjust their perspectives and lifestyle habits to support their changing mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

Since 2015 I have been developing Yoga for the Stages of Menopause. in 2020 my 40 hour Yoga Teacher Training of the same name was accredited and launched, and has educated 100s of teachers worldwide. In 2021 my 9 hour CPD for Health Coaches and Fitness and Wellness professionals was launched and continues to be studied around the world.

Niamh Daly BAHons, RYT, Senior Yoga Teacher & Trainer, Advanced Dip Nutrition & Health Coaching, Pilates Instructor, Speaker, Author & guest teacher in Yoga for Women’s Health trainings worldwide.

"Niamh has a no frills attached teaching skill which is inclusive, respectful, honest and open, I loved every minute of this training, and feel it is something we should all be exposed to." Christine Stewart, Yoga Teacher

My name is Aoife Mallon, and I am currently undertaking an MA in Psychotherapy in Dublin Business School. I am inviting you to take part in my research project which sets out to explore the experience of countertransference for therapists working with addiction.

    What is involved?

If you agree to participate in this research, you will be invited to attend a recorded interview with myself either in person or online, which should take approximately 45 minutes to complete. During this I will ask you a series of questions relating to the research topic and your own work. After completion of the interview, I may request to contact you by phone or email if I have any follow-up questions. There are no known risks involved in taking part in this study.

    Confidentiality

All information obtained from you during the research will be kept confidential. Notes about the research and any form you may fill in will be coded and stored in a locked file. The key to the code numbers will be kept in a separate locked file. This means that all data kept on you will be de-identified and a pseudonym will be created for each participant. All data that has been collected will be kept in this confidential manner and in the event that it is used for future research, it will be handled in the same way. Audio recordings and transcripts will be made of the interview but again these will be coded by number and kept in a secure location. Data retention will be managed in line with the retention policy of DBS, as set out in the Ethical Guidelines, and GDPR regulations. Your participation in this research is voluntary. You are free to withdraw at any time prior to the submission date without disadvantage.

Should you have any further questions regarding this study please do not hesitate to contact either:
