You are invited to take part in a study entitled “Psychotherapy and a Mindfulness Meditation practice - An Interoperative Phenomenological Analysis of the Psychotherapists Experience” as part of my Masters of Psychotherapy at Dublin City University (DCU).

This study intends to explore psychotherapists’ experience of practicing both mindfulness meditation and working psychotherapeutically to see how the two interact. The study is interested in those who have specifically developed their meditation practice through participation in at least one 10 Vipassana Meditation retreat. This is to ensure there is some embodied understanding of the insight meditation technique. The participant must also identify as maintaining a personal mindfulness meditation practice, though this need not mirror identically the Vipassana meditation practice.

Interviews will last 45mins to an hour and will explore the psychotherapists experience of the psychotherapeutic process. With a specific focus on how their experience of mind, body and relationship may have been shaped by their meditation practice. Those interested in participating can also receive the interview questions before committing to ensure they are comfortable exploring the relevant topics. No experience is right or wrong, and rather the study is interested in the unique qualities of each individual account.

You are eligible to participate in this study if you are a qualified and actively practicing psychotherapist and maintain a mindfulness’s meditation practice alongside your work.

Interview scan be held in the Healthy Living Centre in DCU or through the Zoom platform depending on your preference. Your participation in this study will be completely voluntary and will be entitled to withdraw at any stage up until submission.

Joanne Hanrahan Bio

Joanne Hanrahan is an IAHIP accredited Psychotherapist and Supervisor in private practice in Co Clare. She is also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) so works through a trauma informed lens and very much includes the body and movement in her practice. Joanne is passionate about including place in her approach to therapy, and completed her M.Sc. thesis on the topic of psychotherapy and the natural world. She has delivered numerous workshops, and written about, ecotherapy and finding a healing path with nature.

Are you looking for beautiful, inviting, comfortable and peaceful rooms to welcome your clients? Would you like to join our Collective? The newly renovated Dún Laoghaire Therapy Centre is now renting therapy space to therapists and wellbeing practitioners in the heart of the town.

We rent on a 4hourly slot basis: 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm and 5pm-9pm. We do have some flexibility around these times so if you are interested please get in touch with us. Overview

The programme is delivered through blended learning. It rotates between online and onsite teaching inputs. Online classes are delivered in our Tallaght Campus, and our online classes are run as tutorials that involve students and their lecturers logging into our online portal Zoom™ simultaneously. Learners have the option of attending on a mix of Wednesday evenings online and a small number of onsite Wednesdays and Saturdays.

LifeChange Psychotherapy is providing a series of Introductory Integrative Bodywork Training Modules for therapists interested in developing and specialising in bodywork, bioenergetics and body process awareness and tracking for their client-work.

About the Facilitator:

Brian Gillen is an experienced Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor, specialising for over ten years in Bodywork and Body-based Psychotherapy as a practitioner and trainer. He is a Core Trainer and Lecturer on the MA Psychotherapy Programme at Dublin Business School. He is also Director and Founder of LifeChange Psychotherapy & Counselling and Body Psychotherapy Ireland. He holds a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy and has trained with the IPP and abroad in various Bodywork, Biodynamic and Bioenergetic approaches to therapy. We have reached almost epidemic proportions of teenagers crippled with anxiety, many who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. About The Presenter: Bronagh Starrs is Programme Director for the M.Sc. Adolescent Psychotherapy in Dublin Counselling & Therapy Centre in partnership with University of Northampton and Founder & Director of Blackfort Adolescent Gestalt Institute. She maintains a private practice in Omagh, Northern Ireland, as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, writer and trainer, specialising in working with adolescents, emerging adults and their families. Bronagh is an adolescent development specialist and has considerable experience as a trainer in adolescent development and therapy throughout Ireland. She also teaches and presents internationally on the developmental implication of trauma on the adolescent journey.

Her first publication, Adolescent Psychotherapy - A Radical Relational Approach (Routledge, London) was received international acclaim. Bronagh’s second book Adolescent Configuration Styles, Parenting and Psychotherapy – A Relational Perspective is due for publication in December 2023.
