Re: Invitation to Participate in Research on Creative Psychotherapy and Grief Support in Schools

Dear IAHIP member,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Ciara O’Byrne, and I am a final-year student on the MA in Creative Psychotherapy (Humanistic & Integrative Modality) at the Children’s Therapy Centre.

I am currently conducting a qualitative research study exploring the role of creative psychotherapeutic methods in supporting adaptive grief processing among adolescents in Irish secondary schools. The focus of the study is on the experience and effectiveness of these methods when supporting young people who are navigating anticipatory grief, grief and bereavement.

What the Research Involves

As part of this study, I am seeking to interview practicing psychotherapists who:

• Are accredited with a relevant professional body (e.g. IAPTP, IAHIP),

• Have at least 2 years' experience working therapeutically with adolescents,

• Are currently or were recently involved in school-based or school-linked grief support, and

• Use creative or expressive approaches in their therapeutic practice. Participation will involve a single semi-structured interview (approximately 45–60 minutes), conducted at a time and format that suits you (in person or online). All data will be anonymised, and full ethical protocols will be followed in line with CTC and GDPR guidance.

Purpose and Impact of the Study

This research aims to:

• Highlight the experiences and insights of creative therapists working in school contexts,

• Explore how adolescents respond to creative grief supports, • Identify benefits and challenges of delivering such interventions in post-primary schools,

• Inform future school-based grief support models, policies, and practices.
