Research Study Title: An Exploration of Psychotherapists views on working with clients who have or had, experiences of Psychosis.

The purpose of this study is toexplore psychotherapist’s views on working with clients who have or had, experiences of psychosis. This research aims to provide an overview of psychotherapist’s views and experiences of working with clients who have had an experience of psychosis in order to fundamentally understand this landscape. The research hopes to highlight if there are any common themes or experiences in providing psychotherapy in order to address potential barriers and educate about the need to improve access to therapy and understand the potential blocks if they exist.

Research Objectives:

1) Improve treatment efficacy by understanding the therapist’s perspective. Exploring these challenges may inform the need for more information/education.

2) Enhancement of the therapeutic alliance with these clients if participants can identify their views, potential biases or misconceptions that may hinder the development of a therapeutic alliance.

3) Partly address stigma for these clients, as they often face negative attitudes and discrimination from society. Identify any stigmatizing beliefs or concerns for participants of clients in therapy experiencing these symptoms. Taking part in this study may help reduce societal stigma and perhaps potentially increase the availability of therapy going forward.

4) Identify areas for professional development and promote competence in working with diverse clients experiencing psychosis. Participating in research can promote more inclusive practices within the field of therapy. The Researcher’s overall aim is to promote awareness and a more compassionate therapeutic approach for client’s experiencing psychosis.
