“Lightness of Being”: Self-Care Body & Mind Workshop
This is an embodied journey fusing Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra and aspects of YogaSomatics for body and mind sensitisation and rejuvenation.
This is a two-hour experiential workshop with an invitation to meet yourself with lightness, spaciousness and subtle awareness. We will use the floor with some Yoga Somatics techniques to make contact with the body to ground, soften and meet ourselves with vibrant sensitivity. This is an exploration about how we can move between the inner, outer and more subtle parts of our being; travel lightly through these fabrics engaging our senses, feeling body and inner awareness.
The Yin Yoga practice will be taught through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the 5 Element Theory where we work along the meridians to improve the flow of “chi” or energy. We will connect with the gifts of the Earth Element such as grounding, connection and protection. There will be ample time for stillness which is the essence of Yin and reflection. Stillness allows the body to absorb the energetic benefits of the practice and slows down the thinking mind. We will conclude with a Yoga Nidra effortless guided meditation to allow time for the practices to integrate and come to deep rest. Yoga Nidra, also known as “yogic sleep” is usually practiced lying down and is highly restorative for mind and body. Some ambient pieces of music will be included to allow for immersion and integration. The workshop will conclude with space for silence.
Having a body-mind practice is essential to restore our energy and vitality. Deirdre has a particular interest in the subtle body and energetics and how we can use these practices to cultivate our sensory and body awareness, to feel energised, replenished and alive in ourselves and also to client experiences (countertransference/somatic awareness).
This combination of yoga, somatic movement techniques, stillness and meditation have come out of Deirdre’s own personal “felt” experience and belief that these restorative practices are an essential self-care tool for therapists and those working in the healing profession.
