We are very happy to be hosting Dr. Phil Robert at the next Soul Seminar to speak on the topic of anxiety and the techniques we can learn and utilise to help us with this condition. An engaging and informative talk for those dealing with anxiety, professionals working with people with anxiety or for those looking to learn more about the condition.

Techniques for Living with Anxiety

Anxiety and stress are part of normal everyday life. Anxiety and stress are the emotional and physical responses to what life throws at us. We are presently living in very challenging times with many experiencing powerlessness and hopelessness. Life doesn’t have to be that way. Your quality of life should not deteriorate due to anxiety.

Mental and physical health go hand in hand so it is important for you to maintain your physical health and achieve balance in your life. This will have a knock-on effect in improving your mental health and your capacity to deal with anxiety and stress.

In the course of this seminar I will explain what anxiety is and how we recognise it. I will list the various symptoms experienced by people when feeling anxious and stressed. I will also explore the numerous techniques and strategies that you can learn to help you cope with anxiety. As Carl Jung said ‘The shoe that fits one foot pinches another.’ The same applies to coping strategies.  You can choose which ones suit your personality, strengths and interests.

The seminar will cover breathing exercises, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, journaling, sleep, meditation and music to name but a few. I will give you examples of how you can become aware of and change your negative thinking.

The seminar will help you to focus on the positives in your life, to value yourself and to learn to say NO when appropriate.

We can all learn from each other and if you have any nuggets of wisdom that you can pass on we welcome them during the question and answer session.

I trust that by ten o’clock you will leave the seminar feeling empowered having enjoyed your evening. You will have a greater sense of self awareness. You will have identified your strengths and you will have learned many coping strategies most of which are basic common sense but hopefully you will have at least one or two new ideas that you can put into practice.

Dr. Phil Roberts Bio:

Dr. Phil Robert is a psychotherapist, counsellor, motivational speaker and author from Dublin. She is in private practice in Cabinteely and gives workshops on Anxiety and Stress, Burnout and Self Care, Loss and Grief, Empowerment and other mental health issues.

Phil has co-authored and published affordable, easy to follow guides to empower people to meet their challenges and take control of their own lives. These books, Say Goodbye to Panic Attacks, Manage Your Anxiety and Stress and Manage Your Anger are endorsed by Mental Health Ireland and are on sale on their website, in certain pharmacies and bookshops and can also be downloaded as EBooks from Kindle and ITunes. Phil has also recorded an audio version for those who prefer to listen rather than read.

Phil’s background is in education and she firmly believes that given the right tools, people can build on their own strengths to become their own therapists so to speak in order to manage their anxiety. Phil believes in the positive power of laughter. She has a wicked sense of humour so be prepared to have some fun.

Phil has written articles on stress and anxiety for Network magazine, Focus Magazine and the January issue of GROW newsletter. She is addressing the delegates at the PCI Annual Conference in the Gibson Hotel on 28th June on Burnout and Self Care.

Phil is looking forward to giving a talk on Techniques for Living with Anxiety as part of the Soul Seminars in the Lantern Centre, Synge Street on 10th April.


As always we will begin with registration and tea/coffee 7-7.30, the talk will run from 7.30-9 followed by a break and Q&A. We will finish at 10pm.
