Reflections A Decade On – 10th Anniversary Celebration of Inside Out

The 10th anniversary of Inside Out couldn’t have taken place on a nicer summer night. The warm and bright weather seemed to echo the mood of the evening perfectly and it was wonderful to meet so many therapists I had only known vicariously through their writings in Inside Out over the years. Although I enjoyed the entire evening, my highlight (and I’m sure I won’t be alone in this) was Diana Erskine-Hill’s recital of her beautiful poem, ‘The Dancer’. There was something deeply reverent in Diana’s narration of her experience in a ballet class despite being profoundly deaf. This story was beautifully brought to life through the poet’s own movement through the room and her use of the singing bowl which brought almost a meditative hush to the room. Ending with a powerful ‘Alleluia’, it was a beautiful and fitting opening to the evening and one which I will remember for a long time.
