Martina holds a Post Grad Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy and a Masters in Applied Spirituality with a thesis exploring the role of Spirituality in the identity formation of young Irish women.
Martina is an Anam Cara Apprentice with Our Lady's Hospice for the past 3 years - (Traditionally Anamcara were mentored by elders whom the community recognised as possessing special gifts of spiritual discernment. Anamcaras are called to be life-long students of the Inner Life and companions of the Inner Journey for others.)
She is also completing her training in Supervision with the Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre. (December 2017)
Before training as a psychotherapist, Martina spent 15 years working in Community Development in Dublin and Athlone. Her experience in the world of community development and facilitation saw her working with Travellers, Lone Parents and Long Term unemployed.
Having trained in Gestalt Therapy with the Irish Gestalt Centre under the experienced teaching of Hank Mahony (RIP), Joan O’Leary, Tricia Norris and Gill Naylor, Martina works with working with families, adolescents, individuals, and couples on issues related to relationships, parenting, family conflict, depression, anxiety, compulsive behaviour, anger management, self-esteem, stress, bereavement and loss.
Martina takes an holistic approach in her work, using creative, person centred methods, following the client’s lead. The Gestalt approach to counselling is grounded in the here-and-now allowing the therapy process to be alive and present-centred.
Martina is also a trained facilitator and regularly lead creative development programs such as the widely acclaimed ‘Artist’s Way’, and my own programmes; ‘Writing your Sacred Journey’ and ‘The Way of The Inner Teacher’ and 'Life Gems'.
