Invitation to Participate in a Research Study
My name is Celia Daly and I am a final year student in the DBS Masters in Psychotherapy programme. To fulfill the requirements of the course I am required to complete a research study and I have chosen to do this on the subject of shame.
The literature refers to the extent to which shame plays in many of the problems that clients bring to psychotherapy including depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, addiction, and eating disorders. Yet very often shame is not talked about as such because clients feel ashamed about shame. Consequently it may be difficult for therapists to identify underlying conditions as shame-based.
I am interested in exploring how shame comes into and impacts the psychotherapeutic relationship, how it may be identified, and subsequently worked with. I would like to interview experienced practitioners with a minimum of two years’ professional practice post-accreditation about their experiences of working with shame issues.
If you would like to take part in this research study, please contact me at 087 942 2454 or at celiamdaly@gmail.com to arrange a suitable time. I would be happy to discuss any aspect of the proposed study should you require further information.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Celia
