A Four Day EFT Externship Training® in Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples

EFT is a research proven method for helping couples
move from distress to trust and closeness.

Imagine improving your therapy skills, having more success in treating couples, AND getting happier in your own life all at the same time. We know from research that attending an EFT Externship can do just that.

Wednesday, May 9th – Saturday, May 12th – 2018

9:30am – 5:30pm
Glenroyal Hotel, Straffan Rd, Maynooth, Co. Kildare.

EFT Trainer: Gail Palmer, M.S.W., R.S.W.

Gail Palmer is one of the founding members and co-director of ICEEFT (International Centre of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) and is Chair of the ICEEFT Education Committee. For over twenty years, Gail has trained and supervised therapists and students in Emotionally Focused Therapy and has conducted Externships, Core Skills Trainings and workshops on a number of EFT topics across Canada, the United States and Europe. Working with families is a particular interest to Gail and she has developed the application of the model to families by both presenting and writing on EFFT. She is co-author of Becoming an Emotionally Focused Therapist: The Workbook. Gail has her Masters in Social Work, is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist in Canada and an Approved Supervisor with the AAMFT. She is a couple and family therapy lecturer at the School of Social Work at Carleton University and St. Paul’s University in Ottawa.

What is EFT?

EFT was developed by award winning Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980’s. Sue was recently awarded the Order of Canada, the highest civilian award given by the Canadian Government for Outstanding Achievement, Dedication to the Community and Service to the Nation.
The EFT model is based on Attachment Theory, the Science of Love and Emotions and Humanistic Psychology. It is developed from over 30 years of research into human bonding.
EFT helps couples move from relational distress and disconnection to safer, more loving relationships.

What is the EFT Externship?

It is the initial four-day training in EFT and a pre-requisite for other EFT trainings. It includes an overview of all aspects of the model including steps and stages, interventions, adult attachment theory and application of EFT with couples.

The Externship is taught with a variety of teaching methods including lectures, interactive discussions, role plays, video demonstrations and live session consultations.

During the Externship you will learn to:

  • See marital distress from an attachment perspective
  • Identify the basic stages and steps of EFT
  • Help partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain marital distress
  • Shape key new interaction and bonding events
  • Help couples repair attachment injuries, fostering healing within and between the couple

Testimonials

‘The Externship truly invited me into the world of Emotionally Focused Therapy. It set a wish in my heart to bring this therapeutic approach to my work with couples. I felt so grateful and hungry for more.’ (Brigid Walsh, Couples Therapist, Galway)

‘EFT has provided me a map and compass to find my way forward with love and compassion. This is the best model for couples’ therapy and I am so glad I am fortunate enough to be part of it.’ (Patricia Gallagher, Counselling Therapist, Mullingar)
