In the Best Interest of the Child – Exploring Parental Alienation and Estrangement
May 23, 2019
Trinity College Dublin
This inaugural conference is proudly sponsored by Changes Counselling & Psychotherapy Ltd. – changes.ie. It is designed specifically for social, legal and mental health professionals working with children and families throughout the island of Ireland.
This is a timely offering as Parental Alienation (PA) has recently been included in the ICD-11 published by the World Health Organisation and the DSM-V (2013) on pages 716, 718 and 719. Furthermore, the American Psychological Association is currently reviewing its position in relation to P.A. Additionally, the Child and Family Court Advisory Service (CAFCASS) in the U.K have recently acknowledged Parental Alienation.
The aim of this conference is to raise awareness and address the knowledge gap about PA in Ireland, to build an understanding of the experience of children and their families impacted by this phenomenon and to highlight evidence-based interventions to address the phenomenon of PA.
This is the first all-Ireland conference addressing the phenomenon of Parental Alienation with speakers from Northern Ireland, U.K, U.S.A., and Canada. Speakers will address current thinking from research and policy and how these impact on practice and service delivery for families and communities throughout Ireland.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and consider the challenges of working with these real-life issues in their practice and its relevance to policy/service developments.
