Dermot holds Masters in Psychotherapy from Dublin Business School. Dermot's approach is integrative and humanistic, meaning that he combines learning from different schools of psychotherapy to best meet the needs of each person.
Dermot's career began in software development, and he moved from there into the not-for-profit sector, where he supported people in developing leadership skills through volunteering. It was from here that Dermot became interested in counselling and psychotherapy, as he saw people's ability to grow during periods of intense challenge, provided they had the right kind of support.
"I see psychotherapy as being a collaboration between therapist and client. My role is to support you as we explore together the issues you are facing. I aim to create a welcoming environment, where you will feel safe and comfortable. Each week, you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings, and to be heard in a non-judgemental way.
I firmly believe that each of us has the capacity to change and to grow. However, during difficult times, we often create beliefs and patterns which hold us back. Psychotherapy gives an opportunity to develop self-awareness, to reflect on what we want in life, and to find new ways to cope and to thrive."
Dermot works with a broad range of issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, childhood trauma, self-esteem and personal-development.
Dermot offers sessions face-to-face (in Dublin 2) and online.
