Aine McLaughlin
About me
Áine holds a MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Northampton, a Higher Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre and a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree from Queen’s University Belfast.
As an accredited member of the IAHI, Áine abides by their code of ethics, attends training workshops and seminars to further her professional development and has regular supervision. She recently undertook training in the Gottman method couples therapy (levels one and two) and traumatic attachment & co-regulation.

As a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Áine strongly believes in and is guided by the principles of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. Áine believes that every client has a choice, responsibility and creativity to bring about their own healing and move towards wholeness. She respects the unique and subjective world of the client and recognises that the client is a whole and dynamic person living out their current level of integration through their body, mind, feelings and spirit.

Áine is committed to journeying alongside her clients to illuminate what may be standing in the way of their giving expression to their true selves. What is more, Áine also believes that as we connect more with our inner landscape, we have the potential to connect with a depth that transcends our own individuality.

To deepen the therapeutic process and move towards the active exploration of the client’s experience, Áine uses an integrative approach, focusing on the client’s individual needs.

Áine has also completed training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

Áine has experience working with individuals and couples of varied ages, backgrounds and cultures. Throughout her experience as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist she has helped clients work through a range of areas/issues including anxiety/stress, depression, self-esteem issues, bereavement/loss, relationship issues, trauma, workplace distress, sexuality issues and personal development.

Áine also has over 14 year’s experience working in the NGO and non-profit sector as a practitioner and manager; working with individuals from diverse backgrounds experiencing Trauma and various forms of Loss. Having managed complex multidisciplinary Social Care teams in the homelessness sector for over a decade, Áine believes everyone has a right to social justice, equality and dignity.

Áine is passionate about creating a safe and respectful space for her clients in order to support their move towards healing and change. She holds the therapeutic relationship as central to this process.
