    Irish Society of Jungian Analysts

    Presents live on Zoom

    Two-Part Series
    Thursdays 16th & 30th November 2023
    7.30pm – 9.00pm each evening (Irish time)

“The Raven”: A tale of Abandonment, Loss and Self-realisation
    Ann Yeoman, PhD
    Jungian Analyst (Zürich)

All fairy-tales, according to Marie-Louise von Franz, concern the process of individuation. Most fairy-tales provide a vignette of one particular stage in the life-long process of individuation. “The Raven”, however, is surprisingly long, meandering, challenging, and fascinating. It strikes many readers as an amalgam of a number of familiar fairy-tale motifs, as we encounter an enchanted princess, a witchy old woman who lives deep in the woods, giants, unreachable castles atop glass mountains, robbers and more. Our tale is long and meandering because it addresses the long, meandering, and difficult task of realising and bringing into life the ‘personal spirit’ that has suffered early, pre-verbal trauma and gone into hiding. “The Raven” explores the extraordinarily complex process of ‘redeeming’ the personal spirit, enabling it to become an integral part of the conscious personality. The tale is endlessly rewarding; it opens the reader to a deeper understanding of the mysteries and dynamics of the psyche at each reading. Ann invites us to join her on a journey of discovery as we plumb the depths of this tale together.

Ann Yeoman graduated from the C.G. Jung Institute, Zürich, is a member of IAAP, and currently lives and practises in Devon, UK. Before returning ‘home’ to Devon in 2008, she worked as Dean of Students at New College, University of Toronto, where she also designed and taught a suite of courses in Jungian Studies. Ann has lectured and offered workshops internationally; she is the author of Now or Neverland: Peter Pan and the myth of eternal youth (Inner City Books); and, with Kevin Lu, C.G. Jung’s Collected Works: The Basics, available December, 2023 as part of The Basics Series published by Routledge. Ann has an abiding interest in the endless possibilities of meaning and wisdom to be mined through the study of all products of psyche, with a soft spot for the fairy-tale.

QQI Level 8 Minor Award in Trauma Informed Therapy StudiesThis innovative part-time programme in validated by QQI.

    Introduction

A recent national study into Trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD in the Republic of Ireland found that 82.3% of respondence had lifetime exposure to one or more traumatic events, with almost 68% reporting two or more traumatic events (Hyland et al, 2021). Likewise, in a global context, research has indicated that 70% of people have been exposed to a traumatic event (Benjet et al, 2015). The overwhelming evidence of the ubiquitous nature of trauma exposure tells us that mental help professionals need to be trauma informed.

Trauma informed therapy is a way of working with clients that recognises how traumatic experiences can impact on all domains of being across human development, including behavioural, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. Trauma can impact relational styles, attachment styles, and both family systems and social structures, through the influences of culture and the environment. At the same time, human beings experience complex intrapersonal and interpersonal relational dynamics, childhood difficulties, as well as sociocultural and economic disadvantages that are problematic, but which are not traumatising. Therefore, the objective in training in Trauma Informed Practices is to understand what trauma is, and what it is not. The purpose of the IICP College Trauma Informed module is to support learners in increasing their understanding of trauma through theoretical knowledge, practice based experiential exercises, and group work.

In Constellation work we are bringing back together that which has been separated: there we find movements towards peace, paths to reconciliation in both our internal and external worlds. The lens of inclusion brings an understanding of dynamics which exist within us all. Such an integration gives new perspectives on our internal and external conflicts.

How Can We Make Peace? From where we are standing, how can we contribute to finding peace amidst the chaos and pain? The times we are living in now shout out this question. Bert Hellinger opened a pathway to peace many years ago in 2009 when he wrote his book Peace Begins in the Soul.

Come bring all your conflicted parts, your sadness and your joy, the dynamics of your sacred your family, bring the intelligence of your intergenerational coping strategies because along with your ancestors they have all been in the service of life. All are welcome and included without judgement to stand with us in Rumi’s field:

Out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing there is a field i will meet you there”.

So, let us spend this Sunday working together on our own healing, bringing to light that which our systems have hidden in plain sight, longing to be seen. The symptoms of our deep love, loyalties and the scars of our attachments.

In the work new images and perspectives unfold These are often beyond the limits of the personality, they are attuned to the creative guiding force of life. Bert calls this The Spirit Mind or Tao. The whole group is in service to life. If we are open and present, whether as client or representative in the service of our sacred families or as part of the essential holding group within which the work unfolds, we will find ourselves deeply moved. Our Personal issues can be touched in a profound way when we experience how love can flow.

This work has a delicate simplicity whose impact ripples widely. Our Souls can be moved when there is a place for ‘everything’ and ‘all’ are re-membered with love. Bert Hellinger’s work continues to unfold healing movements in relationship at all levels. And can offer reconciliation within ourselves and in our sacred families which can then spread to larger groups and wider contexts.

Facilitator: Colette Green MA MIAHIP ICP.

Guest Speaker presenting The High Art of Helping: a Soul Journey: International Hellinger Days October 2023 Hellingerschule Bad Reichenhall Germany.

Colette has been involved with constellation work and training for over 25 years. She trained with Bert and Sophie Hellinger at the Hellingerschule and with many other first-generation facilitators. Co- founder of Ochre with Sebastian Green and course director of the Family Systems Practitioner training program in Bangalore India. She has a small, private practice in Cork and has run Constellation Workshops in Ireland, England, Germany and India and works as an Organizational Consultant using a Systemic/Psychodynamic lens. She works both on-line and in person and also offers Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Constellation Work with horses.

This is the fifth in a series of one day, systemic workshops offered by Ochre on Family and Organisational work, 2022/3.

    TRAINING WORKSHOP: 12 CPD Hours

Tipperary Rape Crisis Centre in conjunction with Blackfort Adolescent Gestalt Institute presents a Two-Day Training Workshop on:

       Sandspace with Adolescence

15th & 16th April 2024 (Monday & Tuesday) in the Talbot Hotel, Clonmel, Co Tipperary. (9.30 am-4.30 pm: Registration from 9:00 am on Monday 15th April 2024) (Tea and coffee provided / Lunch not provided)

    Two-Day Training Workshop
Sandspace with Adolescents The adolescent brings his world to the therapy situation and we, as therapists need to collaboratively, with our adolescent clients, create a framework of meaning that supports the process and purpose of therapy. The guiding principle of this collaborative construction is the client’s meaning-making, which promotes the discovery of capability, agency, personal power and connectedness with the interpersonal world. Sandspace is a unique developmental approach to working with adolescents which supports meaning-making and self-perception. The sand world can bring healing and insight, offering a dynamic mode of relating that enriches the contact process between aspects of self-experience which are often compartmentalised in the adolescent’s developing awareness. The adolescent’s life space and contact boundary development become visible, tangible and threedimensional in the sand. This dynamic way of working also creates additional richness and depth to therapeutic contact.

During the two days, we will explore theoretical, clinical and practical aspects of Sandspace with adolescents including:

    • An introduction to Sandspace
    • Initiating Sandspace with adolescent clients
    • Gaining practical experience in creating & facilitating Sandspace
    • Exploring the healing & transformative potential of Sandspace
    • Trauma & Sandspace: silent expression of the unspeakable
    • Understanding the richness of symbolic representation for the adolescent

    About The Presenter:

Bronagh Starrs is the Programme Director for the MSc Adolescent Psychotherapy in Dublin Counselling & Therapy Centre in partnership with the University of Northampton and Founder & Director of Blackfort Adolescent Gestalt Institute. She maintains a private practice in Omagh, Northern Ireland, as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, writer and trainer, specialising in working with adolescents, emerging adults and their families. Bronagh is an adolescent development specialist and has considerable experience as a trainer in adolescent development and therapy throughout Ireland. She also teaches and presents internationally on the developmental implication of trauma on the adolescent journey. Her first publication Adolescent Psychotherapy - A Radical Relational Approach (Routledge, London) has received international acclaim. Bronagh’s second book is due for publication in 2023.

    The Cost:

Recognised by Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

    10 CPD hours.
    Live online November 10th 7-9.30pm, 11th 9.30am-1.30 and 12th 9.30am-1pm.

Have you noticed the recent media surge in interest in menopause? You may not be aware of how much misinformation a woman is trusting at the moment, and how frightening it all is for this generation.

Have you noticed relationship struggles seem so often to appear in couples where the woman is in her 40s or early 50s? You may not be aware of the possible hormonal reasons for this. Your clients are unlikely to either.

In this course you will gain understanding of the biochemical impact of the stages of menopause, and how it, society, social media and even medical and lifestyle advice can negatively contribute to a woman's stability, behaviour, feelings and energy in distinct ways, and impact her immediate family, colleagues and friends.

    • Not just about the woman herself, you will gain insight into how perimenopause can affect relationships, and learn enough to help couples, families & friends, understand the impact the fluctuations of reproductive hormones have on their sense of each other.
    • The physical impacts on the body, and on hormones other than reproductive ones, will be made clear, helping you contextualise why some menopausal women may seem unable to implement suggestions for changes to improve their wellbeing, and how, if appropriate, you can help a woman overcome these impediments.
    • The nervous system is key to the severity of the perimenopause experience, and you will gain a wide array of useful techniques to support nervous system resilience in your clients, via stimulation of the Vagus Nerve and other strategies.
    • Trauma sensitivity in menopause because the struggles of perimenopause can be experienced as a loss of control, power and comfort in being who we are, and in feeling how we are feeling. The connection of menopause to trauma history, trauma-sensitive language and adjustments will be taught.
    • Somatic techniques adjusted for the menopausal woman because a woman’s relationship with her body can change. You will be resourced with simple techniques to help clients stay connected to their body.
    • The “feel-good hormones” are affected by the reduction in the reproductive hormones. In taking this course, you will learn in-session, and outside-session ways to encourage the release of these hormones in your clients, which can help with mood, libido, sleep, digestion, sociability and so much more.

There will be space to discuss particular challenges your clients are facing. These discussions will help professionals support a wide array of individual manifestations of this life phase.

Working to support women’s health since 2004, I have helped hundreds of women worldwide one-to-one, in workshops, trainings, talks, retreats and classes to understand the menopause transition and to adjust their perspectives and lifestyle habits to support their changing mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

Developing Yoga for the Stages of Menopause since 2015, in 2020 my 40 hour Yoga Teacher Training of the same name was accredited and launched, and has educated 100s of teachers worldwide. In 2021 my CPD for Health, Wellness and Fitness coaches was launched and continues to be studied around the world.

Niamh Daly BAHons, RYT, Senior Yoga Teacher & Trainer, Advanced Dip Nutrition & Health Coaching, Pilates Instructor, Speaker, Author & guest teacher in Yoga for Women’s Health trainings worldwide.

Niamh de-mystified and teased out fact from fiction with rigour and a light touch. It made for a highly engaging, stimulating and helpful exploration of the impact of the key stages of peri-menopause and menopause on a woman’s system and on her life. And, in many ways most importantly, offered practical evidence-based interventions to ease the way. I found it insightful and hugely useful.Catríona Edwards, Psychotherapist

    Irish Society of Jungian Analysts
    in conjunction with the
    Irish Analytical Psychology Association
    Presents live on Zoom

    Thursday, 19th October 2023: 7.30pm 9.00pm (Irish time)

Exploring Possibilities of Meaning in the tale of
    “The Three Snake Leaves
    Ann Yeoman, PhD
    Jungian Analyst (Zürich)

“The Three Snake Leaves” is perhaps one of the less well-known tales collected by the Brothers Grimm. It may strike some (as it did Ann) as a little atypical, opaque; yet despite, or because of this, it begs our attention. While we may aim, when working with a fairytale, to develop a coherent ‘interpretation,’ it is important to remember that there are many possibilities of meaning and understanding discoverable in any tale: every reading and each reader will uncover something different and new.

Together, we will explore possibilities of meaning in the tale’s strange title, in its symbols, figures and action, its dramatic structure, its resolution, etc., all the time bearing in mind Marie-Louise von Franz’s insistence that the most essential yet invisible ‘character’ of any fairy-tale is the process of individuation, initiated by the Self. We will compare motifs in our tale with similar motifs in other tales, mythology, religious rite and symbol. ‘Amplifying’ the tale in this way will help us plumb its depths for what it may teach us of the dynamics of the human psyche as they manifest collectively and individually, typically and in each personal journey.
