Dear Editors,
I am writing to congratulate Marie Tierney on her rich and thought-provoking article in the Spring 2018 edition of Inside Out. Her focus on mutuality in the therapeutic relationship is refreshing and offers a valuable lens on the healing potential of Integrative Psychotherapy.
We are now at a time when the splits between Humanistic and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy are past their ‘sell-by’ date. With the advances from neuroscience and the well-researched value of deep relationality we are past the time when psychotherapists could be either a ‘blank-screen’ or ‘an empathy-machine’. Marie’s article points well towards a new time of integration in psychotherapy focused around a mutuality of relating which both challenges and nourishes us and our clients.
