Details of workshop

This one-day workshop will introduce you to the theory of Internal Family Systems (IFS) which is a model of therapy that was created by Richard Schwartz  40 years ago. It is a model which sees each of us as being as a system of parts that are interacting with each other internally, often without our awareness. It believes that there is a Self that is a natural leader or foundation for these parts but, as a result of trauma or suffering throughout our lives, the parts have lost access to the Self and many of them have taken on a variety of protective roles in an effort to help us to survive or to get through life.

There will be practical exercises to help you try out the model for yourself and a ‘demo’ where I will demonstrate the model with a volunteer from the group. We will look at ways in which you might find it useful in your client work.

The workshop is suitable for any therapist who has an interest in learning about the model and gaining a sense of what it is and how it can benefit clients.

Presenter - Fiodhna Callanan

Fiodhna is an IAHIP accredited Psychotherapist and Supervisor since 1997. She has worked for a number of organisations over the years, including the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society. She has been working in private practice since 2007.

She has received extensive training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and has participated as a Programme Assistant on many IFS training programmes in the UK, Spain and Portugal. She is looking forward to being a Programme Assistant on the upcoming IFS Level 1 Training Programme in Ireland in March 2025.
