Presented by: Simon Forsyth
This workshop aims to help therapists become more comfortable around the language of gender variance and the idea of engaging with diverse gender identities in their practice (e.g. trans and non-binary people). For many in our field, there is a fear of ‘getting it wrong’ or a sense that they do not have sufficient knowledge of certain topics to engage with gender-variant clients. With this in mind, the workshop will adopt a spirit of compassionate curiosity to explore the assumptions and anxieties that participants may hold, while offering theory-based ideas and practical tips to help increase familiarity and confidence.
The day will feature a mix of facilitator-led information, individual reflection and group discussion, exploring topics such as gender norms, the importance of language, internalised oppression, the process of transition, and affirmative practice. Questions, uncertainties and not-knowing welcome!
