As a professional caregiver and helper you are tasked with managing a high value complex system – you! Working as a mental health professional you need to be mindful of what wellbeing and self-care means for you. It is multi-dimensional and demands more than what other occupations do.
If you work in private practice or for an organisation it is your responsibility to manage and plan your career, to attend to your personal and professional development, and to ensure you are competent and fit to practice.
Whether you are newly qualified or a seasoned campaigner, as a professional caregiver there are constant challenges and demands that you need to take cognisance of and address appropriately.
Working with emotionally demanding situations can lead to physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. Constant exposure to dealing with the pain and suffering of others can lead to vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout.

This workshop will address the management and maintenance of the professional’s mental health, the development and attainment of knowledge and skills and also the maintenance and development of their career.
We are human, not super-human. We experience stress and have needs just like our clients do. We do however have specialist knowledge and skills available to us to help us not become overwhelmed. We learn how to remain motivated and focused, be competent and effective, and retain our own sense of purpose and wellbeing.
