I am inviting interested participants to take part in my research which is an exploration of therapists' experiences of working with adults and social media.

Interested participants will be asked to take part in a virtual thirty minute interview via Zoom which will will discuss:

    1) how counsellors and psychotherapists engage with young people (aged 18 to 25 years) and social media,

    2) if there are any training needs which would support counsellors/psychotherapists in understanding the needs associated with this cohort, and

    3) hear about their experiences of working with this relatively new phenomenon.

    Please find further information attached.

Menopause Awareness for Psychotherapists and Counsellors

Recognised by Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

    10 CPD hours. Live online March 22nd 7-9.30pm, 23rd 9.30am-1.30 and 24th9.30am-1pm.

Have you noticed the recent media surge in interest in menopause? You may not be aware of how much misinformation a woman is trusting at the moment, and how frightening it all is for this generation

Have you noticed relationship struggles seem so often to appear in couples where the woman is in her 40s or early 50s? You may not be aware of the possible hormonal reasons for this. Your clients are unlikely to either.

In this course you will gain understanding of the biochemical impact of the stages of menopause, and how it, society, social media and even medical and lifestyle advice can negatively contribute to a woman's stability, behaviour, feelings and energy in distinct ways, and impact her immediate family, colleagues and friends.

Not just about the woman herself, you will gain insight into how perimenopause can affect relationships, and learn enough to help couples, families & friends, understand the impact the fluctuations of reproductive hormones have on their sense of each other.

The physical impacts on the body, and on hormones other than reproductive ones, will be made clear, helping you contextualise why some menopausal women may seem unable to implement suggestions for changes to improve their wellbeing, and how, if appropriate, you can help a woman overcome these impediments.

The nervous system is key to the severity of the perimenopause experience, and you will gain a wide array of useful techniques to support nervous system resilience in your clients, via stimulation of the Vagus Nerve and other strategies.

Trauma sensitivity in menopause because the struggles of perimenopause can be experienced as a loss of control, power and comfort in being who we are, and in feeling how we are feeling. The connection of menopause to trauma history, trauma-sensitive language and adjustments will be taught.

Somatic techniques adjusted for the menopausal woman becausea woman’s relationship with her body can change. You will be resourced with simple techniques to help clients stay connected to their body.

The “feel-good hormones” are affected by the reduction in the reproductive hormones. In taking this course, you will learn in-session, and outside-session ways to encourage the release of these hormones in your clients, which can help with mood, libido, sleep, digestion, sociability and so much more.

There will be space to discuss particular challenges your clients are facing. These discussions will help professionals support a wide array of individual manifestations of this life phase.

Working to support women’s health since 2004, I have helped hundreds of women worldwide one-to-one, in workshops, trainings, talks, retreats and classes to understand the menopause transition and to adjust their perspectives and lifestyle habits to support their changing mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

Developing Yoga for the Stages of Menopause since 2015, in 2020 my 40 hour Yoga Teacher Training of the same name was accredited and launched, and has educated 100s of teachers worldwide.  In 2021 my CPD for Health, Wellness and Fitness coaches was launched and continues to be studied around the world.

Niamh Daly BAHons, RYT, Senior Yoga Teacher & Trainer, Advanced Dip Nutrition & Health Coaching, Pilates Instructor, Speaker, Author & guest teacher in Yoga for Women’s Health trainings worldwide.

“Niamh de-mystified and teased out fact from fiction with rigour and a light touch. It made for a highly engaging, stimulating and helpful exploration of the impact of the key stages of peri-menopause and menopause on a woman’s system and on her life. And, in many ways most importantly, offered practical evidence-based interventions to ease the way. I found it insightful and hugely useful.” Catríona Edwards, Psychotherapist

    Testimonials:

I have attended many trainings during my nearly twenty years of psychotherapy practice but I can honestly say that this was one of the most stimulating, inclusive and comprehensive trainings I have attended. Karen has a natural ability to impart her knowledge of couples therapy in a way that makes it vital and interesting. She is generous in sharing her resources and experience. For anyone who is considering training in this area I highly recommend this particular one. - Elizabeth Cullen

For me, this was one of the most enjoyable and engrossing courses I've attended. Over the 4 course days, Karen managed to bring us from introduction and overview to a position where seeing couples genuinely feels like a realistic prospect. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who would like to equip themselves to start seeing couples, or even just for an additional perspective on dynamics in relationships to bring to their individual work. - Aine Woods

After taking this course, Karen helped me see how much richer working with couples can be when you pull from different therapy models. I thought I was giving my best to my couples work, and am now realising I have greater resources to draw on and more variety on how to deepen the work. One of my biggest takeaways is the network of other couples therapists to call on for peer support and referrals when I need them. Karen, I really appreciated your open, honest, relaxed manner and the care and thought that you put into the course. - Muuka Gwaba

    Family Constellation Workshop

Sunday, March 3 Fermoy, Co Cork Ireland

    9.00 am – 4.30.00 pm

    Venue

The Alexander Room Fermoy Community Youth Centre. Ashe Quay, Fermoy, Co Cork. P61 TK73

    Fee and registration
    €100.00.

Your place can only be confirmed on receipt of your full fee or non-refundable booking deposit of €50.00

Using the work of Bert Hellinger and the Family Systems constellation as an embodied methodology, we will explore connections and attachments. We will see how connection got interrupted leaving painful wounds and scars, how attachments formed, which play out in our relationships and everyday lives. We will get to understand how these scars are in fact connected to love, a love that got interrupted creating these wounds. Love then had to find another way.

A new perspective opens as we view the underlying dynamics and survival mechanisms, along with the coping strategies, that have been utilized over time, with such intelligence, in our systems, all in the service of life.

We see a scaffolding that got built over time, an architecture which often spans many generations, something the consequences of what has blocked the flow of love could adhere to. Often this scaffolding has supported life through all kinds of adversity, often now it holds us in a bind of loyalty we are unaware of, which we may experience as blocks, symptoms and repetition compulsions. The work unfolds in an informing field, in that field we can view our own constellation and see with clarity our own north star! With love, we can reorient our compass and move forward on our journey. This very sacred work of non-judgemental inclusivity touches deeply and ripples widely, hearts open and souls can move as we become aware of the huge price paid in our family systems to pass life on, and we acknowledge the full cost to us in receiving it.

So, come join us, we are all fellow travellers, bring your questions, your presence and an open heart and spend this day working together in the service of life.

We are interconnected and interdependent beings, during this work there is a constant flow of receiving and giving, bringing together that which has been separated. It brings to light that which has been longing to be seen in our systems and has been hidden in plain sight. These are the symptoms of our deep love, loyalties and the scars of our attachments. When we respectfully leave in the past what belongs there and with whom it belongs, then we come to living more fully, in the present moment.

    Family Constellations

We will come together to offer this online course through Zoom in a group setting using human representatives, small figures and a phenomenological approach. This unique method of working online has been personally developed.

In constellation work, you are invited to enter a “Knowing Field” - an energetic Field where everything that has been created belongs and has a place. The ‘Field’ is a place where that which has been excluded can be brought back together again, opening the channels, so love can flow.

A broader image unfolds in the work as you see how people relate while seen and unseen dynamics come to light.

How we belong in our family systems becomes very clear, often we are connected by hidden rules, by blind love and binding loyalties.

We can appreciate and honour the wise adaptations of our personalities that have helped us to cope and to survive thus far, so life could flow on. Life does flow on, but often at a heavy cost. And at the same time, the flow of love can be interrupted.

While we journey in constellations in this way, looking through the lens of loving, inclusive compassion, we learn, without judgement, what happens when hearts and souls have had to close.

We see how it is that we belong in the contexts we inhabit and the different loyalties between which we are divided.

We find innocence and guilt in the limitations of different levels of conscience. Reconciliation becomes possible between victims and perpetrators in the very act of being truly seen.

We connect with the importance of our sense of place and our familial bonds when everything and everyone is in the right place.

We see the consequences of how ‘blind love’ operates through compensation and identification within a family system through the open-heartedness of an innocent child,

The constellation process offers a possibility to find a new understanding, a different image, which can lead to a ‘Yes’ to the gift of life as it has come down to us. We deeply respect the full price it cost our ancestors to pass life down to us and acknowledge the full price we paid to receive it.

    Our intention is :

That this course will enable you to experience phenomenologically and learn cognitively the principles and fundamentals of systemic family constellation work.

That while your understanding expands, you will start to think in a systemic way and see through a systemic lens, as you view the individual within a larger context. It can have a deeply profound effect when you notice and feel what influences the dynamics within a family system.

That in the continuum, you experience personal growth and healing through all the different levels of learning offered during this course.

We hope that you will learn what moves the Soul as you become more familiar with the grammar and language of the personality within the family system. And then start the process of translating it all into the language of the Soul.

During our time together, we will explore the unconscious intergenerational dynamics that operate in our very sacred families. We will learn how the effects of loss, trauma and exclusion are transmitted intergenerationally, and see how these have been experienced within our personal and cultural histories.

We will also experience the great joy of connection - to be separate and connected.

As we deepen into presence, we will explore our understanding of ‘the field’ which unfolds in constellation work, and see what happens when we pay attention and listen to the truth of experience coming through the body.

We will learn to be guided by the heart and become aware of the subtle movements of the soul. The movement from the past is into alignment with the present and agreement with all that ‘is’ just as we are, just as it is.

St Catherine drinking from the side wound of Christ The Passageway as Living Image. Medieval Women, Mysticism and the Feminine “Side” of the Divine.

    Dr Maria Grazia Calzà

    Jungian Analyst

To C.G. Jung, our imagination is the doorway to divinity: it serves as a symbolic intermediary allowing for the imaging of the imageless divine. These living images allowed medieval women mystics to stand in relationship with the transcendent; a transcendent that over-flowed their consciousness, transmuted and grounded it in their body. In their numinous experiences, they envisioned Jesus as an “incarnational form” of divinity (Self; Jung’s “God within us”) that was feminine in nature, a “continuum with” rather than an “opposition to” their ordinary feminine experience of embodiment.

Dr Maria Grazia Calzà grew up among the olive trees along Lake Garda, Italy. After a diploma in Art Restoration in Venice, she continued her studies at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, Germany receiving a MA and later a PhD in Medieval History, Theology, and Psychology. She has written a book on the role of the body in the mysticism of the first Beguine, Marie d'Oignies, published various articles and lectured internationally. In 2017 she graduated from the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP) in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr Calzà works in Riva del Garda as a Philosophical Counsellor and Jungian Psychoanalyst. Together with Lisa Holland, she is the new academic co-chair of the Jungian Odyssey, and currently completing a book about the feminine taste of the Corpus Christi in women’s mysticism of the Late Middle Ages.
