    Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 23rd, 24th, and 25th September, 2022.

Dr. Evelyn P. Gilmore and Mr. Mike O’Halloran

The workshop provides an opportunity for coaches, consultants, psychologists, psychotherapist, educators, managers, leaders, health care and allied professionals, to enhance their awareness of their own power and authority. In addition, as participants gain greater awareness of these aspects of themselves, they will gain greater insight as to how to help their clients explore and own their own power and authority. Many individuals do not fully own their own powerfulness and project it onto others: friends, partners, siblings, colleagues; or onto organisations, and experience themselves as relatively powerless in interpersonal or organisational life. In addition, individuals who may be formally qualified as professionals, or who may be formally appointed to roles with authority, experience difficulty exercising their authority, due to internal feelings of powerlessness.

The ‘internal world’ of the person is fundamental to how he or she experiences and uses power and authority. This, in turn, is largely a function of the person’s relationships with past authority figures such as parents and teachers. Self-doubt, can lead to the person never being able to fully experience his or her powerfulness, whilst it’s opposite, an inflated self-image, can lead to authoritarianism. When individuals explore their relationship with power and authority, they can experience much greater aliveness and energy, an expanded sense of personality, and greater choice in life.

During this three-day experiential workshop, participants will be provided with an opportunity to explore the following:

    • Exploring and Owning Your Power and Authority
    • Past experiences and Internalised Images that You Hold
    • Enhancing Your Own Sense of Internal Power
    • Sexuality, Gender, and Power
    • Enhancing Awareness of Beliefs and Feelings about Power
    • Doubting yourself and it’s impact on Powerfulness
    • Gaining greater awareness of how you Project Power onto Others
    • Working with the Body
    • Exploring the Power of Powerlessness
    • Exploring the Fear of our Power
    • Gaining greater aliveness, excitement and being afforded greater choice in life

    Style of the Workshop:

The learning over the three days is highly experiential with a focus on participant’s process and experience. We will draw on Psychodynamic thinking. We will use Gestalt work, attention to Dreams, and small and large Group Process. The work will include Movement, Drawing, and Guided Visualisation to bring into the present aspects of the participant’s relationship to Power that are normally outside awareness.

    Main Facilitator: Dr. Evelyn P. Gilmore, B.A., M.Sc., Prof. D., C. Psychol. Ps.S.I., M.I.A.H.I.P., F.I.I.T.D., M.A.C.

She has facilitated trainings for professionals on Leadership and Emotional Intelligence and Organisational Consultancy. In addition, Evelyn has previously facilitated workshops for professionals with Mike on “Owning & Exploring your Own Power & Authority” and “Exploring and Owning the Shadow”.

    Mike O’Halloran, M.A., B.A., E.C.P., M.I.A.H.A.P., M.A.C.

    Workshop Details/Reservation Details:

OCTOBER 2022 – APRIL 2023, LEAP, WEST CORK

West Cork Women Against Violence (WCWAV’s) Sexual Violence Project is organising a specialisation training course in sexual violence for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who are fully accredited or working towards accreditation. The training will be delivered by Rape Crisis Mid-West and aims to increase participant’s understanding and knowledge of rape and sexual assault and support practitioners to be part of a community of people working to end sexual violence.

The training is accredited by RCNI and each module will contribute towards CPD points for the year.

We are seeking counsellors and psychotherapists who will be committed to working in the area of sexual violence. Following successful completion of the training, participants will form a panel of counsellors and psychotherapists for referrals from WCWAV’s Sexual Violence Project. We aim to set up a panel that will enable a geographical spread across West Cork to support access for clients.

The cost of the training is subsidised and includes group clinical supervision on the basis that participants agree to be part of a panel for referrals from WCWAV Sexual Violence Project post training.

    Please see attached information leaflet.

    Embodying Place & Time

    weekend ecotherapy workshop, Sligo

with Therese O’Driscoll and Matthew Henson

Fri 30 Sept (eve) – Sun 2 Oct 2022 (lunchtime)

Therapy never happens in a bubble, it always has a setting, a physical place and time, and a socio-political context. This weekend workshop offers an introduction to embodying place and time in the therapeutic encounter.

Employing an ecotherapy lens and integrating western psychological wisdom with indigenous traditions, we will draw upon a wide range of creative and experiential training methods, embracing spontaneity to meet and explore whatever emerges. Through practices that bring us fully into our bodies, we will find our therapeutic ground by connecting with ourselves, each other and the other-than-human ‘natural’ world. We can never be anywhere other than where we are, so that is where we will start, with a phenomenological exploration of this place, this time, here and now.

The workshop is aimed at practising psychotherapists, counsellors, art therapists, dance movement therapists, psychologists, etc, or students in those disciplines. It might also be of interest to anyone in the broader caring professions; social workers, teachers, youth workers, medical practitioners, alternative and complementary practitioners, etc. It is equally suited to those looking to work in an ecologically informed way with clients and to individuals looking for ecologically informed personal development. The workshop can serve as a standalone experience, or as an introduction to ecotherapy for anyone thinking about a more in-depth training. No previous formal qualifications are required.

Overlooked by Benbulben and Knocknarea, the workshop will take place at An Talamh, a wild working garden situated in West Sligo and home plus garden/cabin studio of Therese. The surrounding landscape has been a teacher of how to garden and how to receive the influence of the wider environment and its many inhabitants.

The cost of the 15 CPD hour workshop, including facilitation by two trainers, lunches and evening meals, is €230 (€210 early bird, if booked before 30 June). A range of affordable accommodation is available locally.

Therese and Matthew are both IAHIP registered psychotherapists with more than 50 combined years in practice. Therese is also an accredited supervisor, offering eco supervision. Her work integrates an interest in the healing relationship, our relationship with nature and the use of creativity. Working through words, poetry, dreams, the body moving and dialogue with place, she offers a safe, contained and healing space. Matthew is a qualified psychotherapy trainer and draws upon his training in existential-phenomenology and wild therapy to facilitate deeper human-nature connectedness. He is particularly interested in the therapeutic mutuality which occurs when we fully engage with the other-than-human.

    Dear Fellow IAHIP members,

    ‘After the goodbye’…….

I intend to research the experiences of psychotherapists in the aftermath of long term work with clients. This is a very significantly under-researched area in clinical practice.

This research constitutes part of a Psychology doctorate under the auspices of Teesside University (UK).

I am seeking to interview 8 -15 IAHIP accredited psychotherapists (fully accredited 4 years+) and who have worked with some clients for periods 12 months +.

Further details are available in my ‘Participant Information Sheet’ which can be emailed to you WITHOUT any obligation to take part.

If you wish to know more, please contact me:
