Invitation to participate in a research study

    Dear Psychotherapist,

If you are an accredited humanistic integrative counsellor/psychotherapist and if you have an interest in the use of metaphors as therapeutic tools, I would like to invite you to participate in the following study.

My name is Helena Clark and I am in the final year of training towards a BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy Top-up Programme with Cork Counselling Services Training Institute, Coventry University validated. This study is being completed as part of this degree programme.

My intention is to investigate the following research question: What is the role and impact of client metaphor in the therapeutic process in humanistic integrative counselling and psychotherapy ? I aim to explore humanistic integrative counsellors’ understanding of metaphor use as a therapeutic tool, their perception of the role and impact of client metaphor in the therapeutic process and their way of working with clients’ metaphors towards change and healing.

Data will be collected through a questionnaire with three demographic and six research questions. I expect the questionnaire to take approximately 15 - 20 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary. Participants can withdraw from the research up to two weeks after completing the questionnaire and their data will be deleted.

This study has been approved by Cork Counselling Services Training Institute Ethics Committee. I abide by Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Code of Ethics and Practice for Counsellors/Psychotherapists (2018), British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Guidelines for Research in the Counselling Professions (2019) and by the General Data Protection Regulation Guidelines (2019).

Confidentiality will be guaranteed and data will be anonymised using pseudonyms chosen by participants. Signed consent forms and questionnaires will be securely stored in a personal, locked filing cabinet. Electronic files will be password protected and stored on a password protected device. Raw data will be destroyed after final assessment of the research report.

I would like to invite you to ask any questions you might have. Please contact me via contact details at the end of this invitation. And if you wish to take part in this research, please send me an email and I will forward you the questionnaire and the consent form.

The research is supervised by Cork Counselling Services Training Institute module leaders Gretchen Jordaan and Laura Maybury (contact number 021-4274951).

Thank you very much for your time.

    Kind regards,

    Helena Clark

    Dear Colleague,

I am writing to invite your participation on my research study entitled:

Psychotherapists and cognate Mental health professionals’ perspectives and use of online dating apps in Ireland: A qualitative study

This research is being undertaken as part of my thesis for a MSc in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy in Turning Point Institute (TPI) and University College Cork (UCC).

There is a gap in research and guidance on therapists use of online dating apps. The purpose of this study is to explore Psychotherapists and other cognate Mental Health Practitioners attitudes, experiences and use of online dating apps. You do not need to have used dating apps in order to take part in this study. It is hoped that this study will assist in bridging this gap in knowledge and guidance around this prevalent modern-day dating method.

This study is open to any psychotherapists and other cognate mental health professional (MHP) (eg counselling psychologist, clinical psychologist etc) who is currently/ has engaged in providing Psychotherapy to clients. Participants may be either a trainee, pre-accredited and fully accredited Psychotherapist/MHP.

If you would like to take part, you will be invited to participate in a one-to-one interview. These interviews will take one hour and will take place online, or can occur at a place that is a mutually agreed safe and convenient place.

To take part in this study or would like more information please contact me by Friday June 3rd, directly at: sarahmacclancy1@gmail.com or 0838285981.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Kind regards,

    Sarah Mac Clancy.

Supervision Group: Psychodynamic & Systemic Approach

    Dr. Evelyn P. Gilmore

    June, 2022, to March, 2023.

    Group Supervision

This group provides an opportunity for coaches, organisational consultants, organisational psychologists and group facilitators to be supported in their work through a small group supervision process. This supervision group will also be pertinent for human resource professionals, training and development professionals and allied professionals. The group supervision provides a space for group participants to reflect on their work with individual clients, to reflect on their work with groups and/or to reflect on their internal / external organisational consultancy projects.

The group will be facilitated from a psychodynamic and systemic perspective. When working from a psychodynamic perspective, feelings and thoughts that operate below the surface are sometimes brought to the surface so that they can be better understood and worked through. In addition, coaches and consultants who operate in an organisational system or who work with clients within organisations can gain new insights into the complexity of their environments and the various systemic elements that may be impacting on them and/or their clients. Numbers will be limited to six participants.

    Supervisor: Dr. Evelyn P. Gilmore B.A., M.Sc., Prof. D., C. Psychol. Ps.S.I., F.I.I.T.D, M.A.C., M.I.A.H.I.P.

Evelyn is a consultant work & organisational psychologist, an accredited psychotherapist, a business and executive coach, a coach trainer and a supervisor of coaches and organisational consultants. She has an honours degree in psychology from national university of Ireland, Galway, and a first class honours masters in work and organisational psychology from Dublin City University. She has received a Tavistock Qualification in Consulting from the Tavistock in London, and has completed a Professional Doctorate in Organisational Consultancy with the Tavistock. Evelyn has worked at a senior level with world class organisations, and her current clients include individuals, groups and organisations from both the public, private and voluntary sector. In addition, she has lectured on organisational change in the department of management in NUIG, and she is currently a visiting lecturer in the Tavistock.

To mark International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia 2022 the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland is organising an in person discussion on metal health issues and LGBTQ+ young people.

Research has shown that LGBTQ+ young people are more likely to experience challenges to their mental health than their heterosexual peers. This is largely due to the bullying and discrimination they may encounter at school, home and in their wider communities. LGBTQ+ teenagers have higher rates of suicide and consider suicide at nearly three times the rate of heterosexual youth. Rejection, isolation and bullying can all conspire to make it more difficult for LGBTQ+ youth to feel safe and supported. Our panel will discuss these issues and try to identify what can be done to help these young people.

    Date & time: Friday 20 May 2022 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Venue: Europe House, 12-14 Lower Mount Street, Dublin 2

    Speakers:

    Maria WALSH, MEP

Moninne GRIFFIT, CEO BeLonG To Youth Services

Rory O’Neill - AKA Panti Bliss, “Gender Discombobulist” & “Accidental activist”

Do you dream about building an online business by sharing your wisdom, advice, your expertise, and knowledge?

But you do not know where to start or how to create it.

    As a psychotherapist you...

    • love taking your clients on a journey of transformation
    • adore helping others improve and heal their own lives
    • have a passion to help others tap into their true potential
    • are elated when your clients make breakthroughs and get those lightbulb moments
    • feel it is your purpose to help your clients tap into their natural healing potential

    BUT you also...

    • get overwhelmed with your client load at times
    • burnout from overworking and overdelivering
    • want to move away from the solidarity of 1:1 work
    • would love to impact more people, but there are only so many hours and energy in the day.
    • have to take as little time off as possible, because if you don't see clients, you don't get paid

Does any of the above sound familiar?

    You are not alone!

Some of my most heart-centred clients are therapists and they LOVE what they do.

They overwork and over-give for many reasons.

They want to specialise in a specific field, but are afraid to show away any clients or fear they have to take any clients that come their way because they do not want to show away any "income".

So they feel trapped in this weird money-time-client dance.

They dream of raising their fees, but wouldn't dare, because it will be more than the average "going-rate".

They often undervalue their knowledge and expertise and therefore undercharge.

They would love to grow their practice in a sustainable and ethical way, that feels good to them energetically and financially.

Hi, my name is Jo-Anne Mac Millan and I would love to help you transform your private practice.

Having had a private psychotherapy practice for 14 years, I understand many of the pitfalls and the joys of having a private practice.

I also understand the many fears psychotherapist might have around “tech” and how to manage it all.

The last couple of years especially have shown how important it is to move your business online, but many feel that they need someone else to “run” the tech for them and they have questions then about confidentiality or losing “ownership” of their private practice.

That does not have to be the way and there is a solution to transition in a wonderfully empowered way to having a dream online business or even “hybrid” therapy practice.

    So that you can:

    • Free up your time
    • Stop swopping time for money, by serving your clients in a different way.
    • Make a bigger impact
    • Create a signature online program
    • Build a membership or online community
    • Move your 1:1 work to group work online
    • Turn your expertise and years of experience into a certificate program
    • Live in a warmer climate during the winter without it interrupting your cash flow.

If this sounds like something you would like to do.

Please get in touch for a no-obligation connection call, so that we can discover how you can move your business online. You can book a call here: https://joanne.as.me/connection

    Special Announcement

I am also looking for 5 therapists who want to create a signature online program for their practice.

I’m specifically looking for individuals who:

    1. Feel like the way they currently “work” needs to change.
    2. Currently work with clients 1:1 in-person and want to move their work online
    3. Are experienced in a specific area and want to create an online program
    4. Want to move from 1:1 to doing more group work online
    5. Have a burning desire to change their career and do something more fulfilling and on “purpose”

If you said “yes” to one of the items above, then send me and email to info@joanne.ie with “HUMMINGBIRD” in the Subject line and and I’ll share more details.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
