My name is Jane McCarthy, and I am an accredited IAHIP member and have just returned from a charity work trip to Uganda with the wonderful Fields of Life organisation
I met a Fields of Life employee over there called George who has no access to trauma therapy materials even though he is working with people who have endured serious traumas. I'd like to send him over a box of trauma therapy books/resources and would be so grateful if you could donate any books or materials on trauma that you have found have helped you in your studies/practice.
If you email me at info@janemccarthy.ie
I can give you my address for postage, and if you're close by (I'm in Greystones, Co Wicklow) I can come and pick them up from you. Thank you so much!
The attached photo is of me and George, who I will be sending the books to. As well as working with the most vulnerable communities in East and North Uganda he is also a hydro-geologist, determining where it is viable for Fields of Life to drill sustainable wells.
He is an inspirational man who came from a poor background and grew up during a time when the LRA rebels were very active in his area, so his education was hard won. He has a thirst for learning, and during the time I spent with him, it was obvious to me that he understands the area of trauma very well. I hope you can support him to add literature and resources to his clinical experience of trauma and its impact.
Thank you!
