Workshop Description
This 2 hour presentation will focus on giving participants a clear understanding and appreciation of the four main theories of how EMDR works including the primary model of Adaptive Information Processing (API) of Francine Shapiro, Working Memory Overload theory, the Orienting Response theory and Memory Reconsolidation model. Each theory/model will be described in detail including research findings in relation to each one.
More recent developments within EMDR (“Flash Technique) will also be described together with its clinical uses and limitations. There will be experiential opportunities for participants to engage with these models/theories. Participants will come away with a clear understanding of the strengths and limitations of each model/theory of how EMDR works in clinical practice.
The workshop will be followed by a Q&A session.
