Join IAHIP old

IAHIP has six categories of membership for individuals:

Student Associate
Pre Accredited Associate
Certified Associate
Accredited Member
Supervisor Membership
Honorary Member

Accredited Member

In order to apply for accreditation, you will need to meet the standards laid down in Bye-Law 10 (interim criteria for those who commenced psychotherapy training before April 1st, 2010), or Bye-Law 11 (for those who commenced training on or after April 1st, 2010).

Application forms must be Spiral Bound and enclosures must follow the order of the checklist.  The Checklist must be fully completed and placed at the front of the spiral bound application pack.
Please also find here guidance notes regarding didactic supervision during training (7.1.2 of Bye-Law 11).
All applications must be legible
All relevant sections completed and, where necessary, supporting evidence supplied
All ratios stated – when totals are requested in the form they must be completed.
The processing fee is €160.00. When we receive your application you will get confirmation by return. After which, processing of the application may take three to six months to complete. We would ask for your patience with the Association in this regard.

Annual Professional Subscription Fees Accredited Member €330.00.
The Next Accreditation Committee meeting dates are:-
Saturday 28th April 2018  – Applications to be received by 12th April 2018
Saturday 15th September 2018 – Applications to be received by September 1st
Please note that applications must be received two weeks in advance of the accreditation committee meeting date in order to be considered.

 

Pre-Accredited Associate

In order to apply for pre-accredited associate status, you will need to meet the criteria laid down in Bye-Law 4.
(i)  have grounds to believe they have graduated, normally within the previous five years, from a psychotherapy training course which meets all the requirements of either Phase 1 of psychotherapy training specified by Bye-Law 11 (or, where relevant, by Bye-Law 10) as necessary for eventual accreditation and membership of the Association.
(ii) have the intention of becoming accredited members of IAHIP and of meeting the requirements set out in Bye-Law 11 (or, as relevant, Bye-Law 10) for those completing the post-course practicum period provided for in those respective Bye-Laws of the Association;
(iii) are practicing as a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist under regular supervision and are covered by a policy of insurance for professional indemnity risks;
(iv) consent to be governed by the IAHIP Code of Ethics and Practice and to be subject to the Complaints Procedure as if they were accredited members; (However, as they are not accredited members whose training and practice has been assessed and approved by the Association, nothing shall oblige the Association to respond to or deal with any complaint against a pre-accredited associate;
(v) provide recommendations from their current supervisor and from an accredited member of IAHIP.

Pre-Accredited Application Forms

Certified Associate

Certified Associates shall be awarded the IAHIP Certificate of Professional Training in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. 
In order to apply for pre-accredited associate status, you will need to meet the criteria laid down in Bye-Law 4.

(i) have, normally within the previous five years, graduated from a psychotherapy training course which has been formally recognized by the Association as meeting all the training standards set out in Bye-Law 6;
(ii) have the intention of becoming an accredited member of the Association on meeting the post-course practicum requirements set out in Bye-Law 11;
(iii) are practicing as a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist under regular supervision and are covered by a policy of insurance for professional indemnity risks;
(iv) consent to be governed by the IAHIP Codes of Ethics and Practice and to be subject to the Complaints Procedure;
(v) provide recommendations from their current supervisor and from an accredited member of IAHIP.

Certified Associate Application Form

 

Student Associate

In order to apply for student associate status, you will need to meet the criteria laid down in Bye-Law 4. Application for the category of student associate is open to students who

(i) are pursuing a training course in psychotherapy that meets all the requirements of Phase 1 of psychotherapy training specified by Bye-Law 11 as necessary for eventual accreditation and membership of the Association or in the case of applicants whose psychotherapy training course began before 1st April 2010 the required elements and hours of the course are those that are specified in Bye-Law 10.)  (If the psychotherapy training course that an applicant is pursuing is not one that has achieved IAHIP recognition, an applicant may be asked to provide evidence to the Membership Secretary that the course he/she has completed meets this condition.)
(ii) can supply a letter of confirmation of student status from their training programme
(iii) agree to conduct their client practice as student psychotherapists in accordance with the IAHIP Code of Ethics and Practice for Psychotherapists; (However, as the Association disclaims any responsibility for either the client practice of students in psychotherapy training or the supervision thereof, nothing shall oblige the Association to respond to or deal with any complaint made against a student associate.)

Student Application Form

Fees for these categories shall be fixed from time to time by IAHIP and shall be payable on 1st January each year.

 

Supervisor Membership

IAHIP maintains a register of Accredited Supervisors. In order to become an IAHIP Accredited Supervisor you must have met the following criteria:
(a)        be an accredited member of IAHIP.
(b)        have five years of experience in supervised practice as a psychotherapist, after their accreditation by IAHIP or by an equivalent organization acceptable to IAHIP.
(c)        maintain a psychotherapy practice which they pursue from a humanistic and integrative perspective.
(d)        have delivered a minimum of 1200 hours of post-accreditation psychotherapy work.
(e)        have successfully completed a supervision training course that meets the criteria specified from time to time by IAHIP.  (See clause 3 of Bye-Law 5c).
(f)        have had at least 1 year’s experience of giving supervision to a minimum of 50 hours, including at least 12 hours one-to-one supervision with the same supervisee.
(g)        be currently supervising no fewer than 2 individual supervisees.
(h)        provide a comprehensive Supervisor’s Report attesting to the quality and quantity of the applicant’s supervisory work and confirming also that the applicant maintains a psychotherapy practice
(i)         provide evidence that they currently have appropriate insurance cover for both the psychotherapy and supervision work they are doing.

To find a supervisor in your area, use the search form, putting in your area or postcode. Once you have a list of psychotherapists in your area, then click on the word “Supervisor” to see which of them are accredited by IAHIP to be supervisors.

Please note that applications must be received two weeks in advance of the accreditation committee meeting date in order to be considered. However, it is not always possible to process all applications even if received in time and therefore some may need to be processed at the next meeting.

Re-registration as an accredited supervisor

In order to apply for re-registration as an accredited supervisor with IAHIP you will need to meet the criteria laid down in Bye-Law 5D.
A member making an application for re-registration as an IAHIP accredited supervisor must fill in the appropriate application form and
(a) Indicate that they have maintained a supervision practice
(b) Show evidence of having received supervision of their supervision practice, and have their statement of this on their application form countersigned by the supervisor(s) of their supervision practice.
(c) Show how their choice of CPD activities has enhanced and supported their practice as a supervisor
(d) Show evidence of current professional insurance cover in relation to supervision practice.

IAHIP also has a Friend and Affiliate Organisation membership status:

Friend

Application for the category Friend is intended for those persons who are interested in the field of psychotherapy and who are working in a related field, or for practicing psychotherapists who are members of another association. In addition, they must be recommended for this category by one accredited member of IAHIP.

Affiliate Organisation

Application for the category of affiliate organisation is open to appropriate Associations, Agencies, Training Organisations, Psychotherapy centres and Professional Bodies in related fields, both statutory and voluntary. Such Organisations are required to endorse the aspirations contained within the Code of Ethics and Practice of IAHIP.
