DETAILS OF WORKSHOP

Why this Workshop:

As public awareness and research into psychedelics grows and psychedelic-assisted therapies continue to evolve, psychotherapists are increasingly likely to encounter clients who bring questions, experiences or curiosity about psychedelics into therapy.

This CPD offering provides an evidence-informed introduction to the contemporary psychedelic landscape but does not train participants to deliver psychedelic-assisted therapy, nor does it advocate for or discourage psychedelic use. Instead, it explores how therapists can engage in ethical, non-directive and clinically grounded conversations when these topics arise in therapy.

Drawing on perspectives from psychedelic research, psychiatry and harm reduction, the programme is designed to complement the relational expertise that humanistic and integrative psychotherapists already bring to their work.

Educational Approach:

Given the rapidly evolving nature of psychedelic research and policy, the educational content is designed to present the current evidence base while acknowledging areas of ongoing debate and uncertainty.

This programme builds on previous invited teaching on psychedelics and psychotherapy and has been thoughtfully developed to meet the interests and learning needs of humanistic and integrative psychotherapists.

Evidence-informed teaching is combined with reflective discussion, experiential learning and case-based exploration. The CPD offering is designed to encourage reflection on clinical practice, therapeutic stance and professional judgement, recognising that confidence develops through reflection, dialogue and experience, as well as knowledge.

FACILITATOR - Kathryn Ledden

Kathryn (Kat) Ledden is a medical doctor undertaking Basic Specialist Training in Psychiatry in Dublin, with academic and clinical interests spanning psychedelic research, harm reduction, mental health, and the social and cultural dimensions of healing.

Kat is a member of the Psychedelic Research Group at Trinity College Dublin, having worked for two years on psychedelic assisted therapy clinical trials. Kat is also a Founding Director and Volunteer Trainer at PsyCare Ireland Welfare and Harm Reduction CLG. Kat holds a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a BSc in Psychology from Dublin City University, and will shortly commence a Master's in Medical Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Amsterdam.

Prior to studying medicine, Kat worked in homeless and social care services, supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties and substance use issues. This experience continues to inform a compassionate, person-centred and harm reduction approach to clinical practice and education.

Kat's teaching draws together perspectives from psychiatry, psychedelic research and harm reduction, with an emphasis on supporting thoughtful, ethical and clinically grounded conversations across disciplines.

DETAILS OF EVENT

Whether or not you use AI in your practice, it is already a part of the world your clients bring to the room. This day of training looks at what that means for integrative psychotherapy. We will explore how clients use AI and why, what it can and cannot offer, and what remains unique about the genuine human connection offered in the counselling relationship.

We will look into how AI use can quietly shape our judgement as practitioners as well as working through the ethical questions that matter most to our practice, such as confidentiality, consent and note-taking.

This day is interactive and involves small group discussions and experiential exercises. It aims to create a space for you to determine your own informed position of AI, and no prior technical knowledge is needed. By the end of the day you’ll be able to explain how AI works and to recognise how your clients may be using it.

SPEAKER - Richard Miller

Richard Miller is a counsellor, supervisor, trainer and author working in private practice in Fife, Scotland. He has worked as the AI and digital ethics consultant on the BACP ethical framework review and has delivered AI training to members of BACP, IACP and COSRT. Richard is the author of the good practice guide in action for AI, as well as Counselling and AI: a practical and ethical guide With PCCS books (pre-print).

Background
As a humanist I am generally motivated and concerned about things which increase or reduce the amount of suffering humans experience. AI, or AGI as a technological advancement presents a significant opportunity and threat to human welfare. As a therapist I feel it is important to raise the collective bar of awareness so that the counselling profession is well prepared, to reduce the risk of harms and to make the most of the beneficial capacities which AI offers without sacrificing the value of genuine human connection.

DETAILS OF WORKSHOP

Introduction: EMDR Therapy is the among the most widely disseminated and researched trauma treatment systems in the world with up to 30,000 practitioners in Europe alone. EMDR is promoted as a therapy of choice by the World Health Organization (WHO) for children, adolescents, and adults with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Aim: This workshop aims to provide participants with an initial introduction to the principles and practices of EMDR Therapy.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will learn:

How traumatic and other disturbing experiences are encoded in the brain and in the body and how they intrude on current functioning.
Why “talk therapy” alone is limited in its capacity to access and resolve these memories.
How EMDR therapy can facilitate the effective processing of traumatic or disturbing life experiences to an adaptive resolution.

PRESENTER - Gus Murray

Gus Murray is an EMDR Europe Accredited Senior Trainer and Consultant with over 25 years’ experience in the use of EMDR therapy.

He is a highly experienced Counselling and Psychotherapy trainer having been Programme Director and Lead Trainer at the Cork Institute of Technology for over 25 years.

He is an Integrative Psychotherapist, accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and has also completed standard and advanced level trainings in Somatic Experiencing (SE) and is an accredited SE practitioner.

Additionally, he has completed standard and advanced level trainings in Internal Family Systems (Ego State) therapy and has extensive experience in the teaching and practice of Ego State therapy.

Gus was the recipient of the Carl Berkeley memorial award (2017) from the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of the Counselling and Psychotherapy profession.

Gus is founding president of the EMDR All-Ireland association. He has presented at EMDR conferences and events throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom and Europe.

DETAILS OF WORKSHOP

Sexual health, intimacy concerns and sexual dysfunction are common presenting issues in psychotherapy practice, yet many therapists report limited formal training in sexology and sexual health. In Ireland, cultural influences, religious history and gaps in comprehensive sex education have contributed to silence, shame and uncertainty around discussing sex openly — both for clients and clinicians.

This one-day CPD training aims to equip psychotherapists with the knowledge, language and clinical confidence required to ethically and competently address sexual health and intimacy issues in the therapy room.

The training integrates humanistic and integrative psychotherapy principles with clinical sexology, offering practical tools, reflective practice, and a bio-psycho-social informed framework for working competently with sexology in counselling and psychotherapy.

PRESENTER - Orlagh Reid

Orlagh Reid is a qualified professional Personal & Business Coach, Counselling Psychotherapist, Clinical Sexology Psychotherapist, Addiction and Recovery Counsellor and Fertility Counsellor located in Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland. She is also a health, positive psychology and wellbeing writer.

Her private practice is primarily online providing online therapy and coaching to clients in Ireland and worldwide. She has been an accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (IACP) since 2015.
