Two Day Training Workshop
Psychotherapists, social workers, probation officers, youth workers, educators and health professionals are encountering more and more adolescents with increasingly complex presentations. Unintegrated trauma is often a core aspect of the adolescent’s experience and his moods and behaviours are often attempts to creatively adjust to the limitations of an inadequately supported lifespace.
This training workshop will offer an in-depth understanding of developmental process for the traumatised adolescent, and in particular, participants will develop a deeper appreciation of the essential developmental impulse underlying even the most self-destructive and inappropriate behaviours exhibited by young people – which understandably cause concern and create complex dilemmas for helping professionals.
Throughout the two days, we will examine various dimensions of contact with young people. Participants will be supported in developing a trauma-sensitive rapport with the adolescent, finding ways to expand the adolescent’s capacity for self-reflection and positive choice making.
